Once the target of bidders in a pre-crisis shuffle of European trade publishers, Informa plc is now on the prowl. The U.K. company said Tuesday it was considering an offer for private equity-owned Springer Science Business Media GmbH.

Informa, of London, said it was reviewing due diligence information on Springer in anticipation of a formal offer but cautioned that it might not be able to negotiate terms its own board would approve.
